Report by India Education bureau, New Delhi/Durham: The Shiv Nadar University (SNU) today announced its partnership with Duke University, a North Carolina-based top ranked global research university.
The alliance will pave the way for collaboration between Shiv Nadar University and its various schools and Duke University to establish a broad framework for collaborative academic programs and experiential learning opportunities for the faculty and students of both universities. SNU and Duke University under the aegis of Duke’s globally renowned Talent Identification Program (TIP) will further collaborate on the development and implementation of educational activities for academically talented students in India.
The Shiv Nadar University and Duke will collaborate in establishing teaching and research programs for the benefit of both universities. The scope of the partnership includes:
· Development of student exchange agreements
· Development of faculty exchange agreements
· Development of joint teaching programs
· Development joint research programs and centers
Duke would also assist SNU in institutional development activities which include assistance in curricula development; faculty recruitment and development; identifying and implementing best practices in university administration and other forms of institutional development. A core team comprising key people from both universities will support the initiatives and assist in the development and implementation.
The alliance would also expand the activities of the Duke University Talent Identification Program (Duke TIP) in India through collaborative initiatives. Established in 1980, Duke TIP is a world leader in identifying and providing innovative programs to academically talented youth globally. Through identification, recognition, challenging educational programs, information, advocacy and research, Duke TIP provides resources for gifted elementary, middle and high school students, their parents, educators, and schools for the development of the students’ optimal educational potential. In addition to the development of educational activities for talented students in India, the alliance would further provide assistance to the SNU School of Education to help develop curriculum for the programme.
Duke TIP’s first collaborative program with SNU will take place in February 2013, when the two organizations will co-host a conference for Indian educators to share best practices in how to identify, plan curriculum for, and evaluate the learning of gifted students.
